Domestic Energy Assessor Prospectus

Our dip DEA Training Package is flexible, yet hands-on, delivered by Industry experts in the Energy Assessment and Property inspection fields.

Our vocational training is based on our proven track record of success by partnering with market leading organisations in the surveying, energy assessing, home inspection, property sales and mortgage services professions.

We have the essential practical experience of the academic requirements of these VRQ diplomas through our involvement with colleges and activities in working groups for the Government, trade bodies and Asset Skills.

As an independent training and business supplier we work closely with all academic and vocational Awarding Bodies, Assessment Centres, Certification and Accreditation bodies to support and promote the achievement of professional and vocational excellence.

Below, you will find details of our Domestic Energy Assessor programme, which leads to the National Association of Estate Agents Level 3 Award in Domestic Energy Assessment.

 

The Full DEA Course

Once you have paid for the full DEA Course and enrolled you are committed to the 3 month programme, which starts with dispatch to you of our unique Distance Learning Materials.

Our Distance Learning Materials are in the form of a comprehensive Workbook and Reference materials. The study packs provide the academic Knowledge and Understanding required for the course. It should take about 10 -12 hours per week over 6 weeks to study the materials and along with any recommended background reading.

The Workbook covers all the relevant areas of knowledge and Understanding required by the National Occupational Standards, such as

  • legal issues, ethics and professional practice.
  • health & safety in work for the Energy Assessor and the Client.
  • building construction basic knowledge on walls floors, roofs and services
  • energy fundamentals, heat loss principles and insulation methods.

The package includes knowledge-reviews and self-test Questions & Answers.

This is a home study package with self-test questions but candidates also have access to a dedicated e-mail and telephone helpline, offering technical and learning support during working hours, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm for the course duration. There is also a dedicated out of hours email and answer phone service for technical support answered before the end of the next business day.

The 3 Days of Practical Training

During the course you will attend a 3 day training course. These are hosted at bespoke conference centres with some of the UK’s leading trainers in attendance.

Using practical photographic Case Studies this training course will focus on the systems and processes you will need to have in place to comply with the requirements of the National Occupational Standards for Domestic Energy Assessors.

Days 2 and 3 are hosted by our training Partners Elmhurst Energy Systems.

Days 2 & 3 will include both technical knowledge and training on the Reduced Data Standard Assessment Procedure (Rd SAP) Energy Rating software which lies at the heart of an energy assessor’s day to day activity in preparing the domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

This is a full Rd SAP accreditation training and assessment package which includes:

A comprehensive classroom based two-day training session on the practicalities of the Rd SAP dataset, how to complete site notes and data-entry into the software system, and the undertaking of case studies.

  • One trainer (Rd SAP qualified) will instruct groups of up to 40 max.
  • All manuals and training materials required will be provided.
  • Candidates will have access to the Elmhurst online Rd SAP software including server space for up to six surveys for training purposes.
  • The candidate will have to complete at least one further case study after the training Days off site to be assessed by Elmhurst for the formal RD SAP qualification award.

Candidate Assessment

Candidates are required to produce a minimum of 5 EPC’s to the current RdSAP standard, 3 of which will be produced for actual existing properties (to include a flat, house and bungalow of differing age) and the remaining 2 on sample/virtual accommodation which will be supplied to the candidate. All EPC’s produced will need to be supported by relevant site notes and photographs.

Candidate Assessment is carried out by Elmhurst Energy Systems on behalf of the Awarding Body, the NAEA.

External Examination

Upon successful completion of your portfolio assessment, you will prepare for and take the online external examination.

The examinations will cover all 5 units of the National Occupational Standards for Domestic Energy Assessors and therefore all elements of our programme (the knowledge and Understanding and practical training) will be of help in equipping you to be able to answer the questions.

Prior to your examination, we will provide further help and guidance for revision topics and exam technique.

Fees

The full cost of the property-careers.com DEA course is £1995 plus partial VAT (£2284.63 inc partial VAT). Included within the course fees are all academic and training & assessment fees. External exam fees are not included within the full course fees and currently cost £110 if both exams are taken together or £75 each if taken separately.
