From 2007, at least 1.5 million EPC will be required

What is more, the European Performance of Buildings Directive states that by 2009, an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) shall be made available when a building is constructed or ‘rented'. It is almost certain that the Government will choose the RdSAP (Reduced Data Standard Assessment Procedure) methodology to be used in such cases.
As a result of this European and UK legislation, a massive opportunity has been created for anything between 2,500-4,500 suitably skilled and accredited energy assessors and/or home inspectors.
The aim of this website is to give an introduction to a new career as an Accredited Energy Assessor and has been designed to help you make an informed choice. It is also intended to assist estate agents, Home Information Pack Providers and others gain a valuable source of information about the role of an Energy Assessor.
Because of the very large numbers of Energy Performance Certificates needed, for practical reasons the Government has now indicated that the requirement for residential lettings will be brought into effect no later than January 2009 to allow for training of sufficient numbers of Energy Assessors.
This produces a massive new industry on the back of this requirement and a significant career opportunity is presented to anyone wishing to enter this field.
Anyone who has successfully passed the new qualification become an accredited energy assessor will be able to offer this service to landlords, and if you obtain the Diploma in Home Inspection, you can carry out the Home Condition Report, including the Energy Performance Certificate. This area of work will not automatically be cornered by Home Inspectors - although to be a Home Inspector, you will have had to display competence in the RdSAP methodology.
On open access principles, anyone wishing to put themselves forward to become an Energy Assessor may do so.
