EPC given added urgency by Government Announcement
Article by: Stephen Callaghan
The introduction of EPCs has been given added urgency following the recent publication of the Stern report into climate change and, crucially, the Government has now confirmed that the EPCs must be attached to estate agents property-sales particulars at the very first stage of marketing.
Welcoming the news, Chief Executive of homeinspectors.co.uk, Stephen Callaghan said:
"I very much welcome the Government's strong support for the EPC as a key part of the HIP. With around 2 million EPCs needed every year, this provides a unique opportunity for a whole new career as an energy assessment professional. Up to 4,500 Domestic Energy Assessors (DEA) and Home Inspectors (HI) will be needed to complete the 2 million EPCs that HIPs will produce."
Since launching their Domestic Energy Assessor training earlier this month, homeinspectors.co.uk has been overwhelmed with enquiries from candidates wishing to enter a new career in property.
Callaghan goes on to say:
"We have been absolutely staggered by the large numbers of candidates coming forward onto the courses, but naturally there is plenty of opportunity for many more people to qualify in time for the June "Go-Live" date. Our own qualification and assessment process takes only 12 weeks from start to finish, even for candidates who have no previous experience in surveying for energy rating purposes."
"For those looking for employment we will endeavour to offer placement into leading energy assessment and surveying firms through our recruitment division, property-careers.com. We are currently retained to place around 200 positions into a leading UK property business for domestic energy assessors. Alternatively for those preferring a self-employed solution we also have consultancy opportunities."
This major Government announcement will come as welcome reassurance to the industry and provides the pathway to a lucrative career for anyone aspiring to become a Domestic Energy Assessor.
